The Goodwill Village Hall in Faddiley, Nantwich was built by local residents and is maintained by a charitable trust (Registered Charity Number 500093) for the benefit of the local community. All funds obtained from renting the Hall are used to maintain, repair and improve it. Run by local volunteers, we try and keep hire fees and conditions to a minimum. As we're not contracted to specific caterers, you're free to make your own arrangements. The Hall is perfect for individual private hire for a wide range of events such as children's parties, keep fit, dances, family celebrations, sale events and wedding receptions. Also ideal for clubs and group classes.
The Hall is one of the largest in Cheshire and is just 4 miles away from Nantwich Town Centre. A beautiful medieval market town; Nantwich and its surrounding area also benefits from lots of hotels, B&B's, cafe's and restaurants. The Main Hall features a full stage and can accommodate 130 seated around tables. This number rises to 150 if there is a mixture of seating and dancing; with maximum occupancy being 160 persons. Who we share our Hall with:
The Hall has an interesting and poignant history which we'd like to share with you.
After WW1, a fund was set up to make a memorial to all the local men who lost their lives during the war. John Allwood a local man who farmed at Burland Farm was one of the Trustees of the Fund.
Little progress was made until after WW2 when Jack Goodwin, a farmer at Ash House, Brindley asked for local volunteers to build a Community Hall. He purchased two surplus army huts and oversaw their demolition and rebuilding into the Hall that we see today. There were plenty of local volunteers including a local builder whose experience was invaluable. Most of the volunteers were employed on local farms and had limited free time, half a day off each week was standard at the time. The actual building of the Hall was physically demanding with all the ground works dug out by hand. Building the Hall was a huge commitment and at times a feat of endurance.
Jack Goodwin oversaw the work and organised many and varied events to finance the project. John Allwood's daughter in law, Eileen remembers attending barn dances and garden parties and the ladies from the village selling locally made Cheshire cheeses at local point to points to raise funds.
Most of the ground that the Hall was built on belonged to Greenall Whitley Brewery who donated it to the Hall fund. For a long time, the only beer that could be sold in the Hall was from Greenall’s.
After the Hall was built there was a competition to give the new building a name and The Goodwill Hall was chosen. The Hall was officially opened in 1964 and this is celebrated by a plaque in the main hall.
